Are drones just flying cameras, or are we watching an entirely new category of privately owned capability emerge?
Tonight we’re asking whether the idea of “arms” could extend beyond firearms to drones, robotics, remote sensors and technologies that dramatically increase what one individual can see, document and accomplish.
The interesting question isn’t whether you can put a weapon on a drone. It’s much bigger: Does the Constitution protect the technology itself, the way we use it, or our ability to equip ourselves with new capabilities?
Drones might just be the first test case for a much bigger debate about personal robots, autonomous technology and who ultimately controls the machines we own.
Are drones arms? And if they aren’t, what exactly are they?
